The source for New Urbanism, smart growth, and walkable communities

New urban communities

New urban communities are designed and developed based on the principles of the new urbanism. They are compact, walkable, mixed use, and emphasize neighborhood centers and gathering spaces. Search for developments by state below and follow the link to their website to find out more about the neighborhood, the buildings, the public spaces, and other characteristics.

Or, you can search by type. There are new towns, transit-oriented developments, town centers, infill/downtown redevelopments, and extensions of towns. Also, there are redevelopments of former shopping malls  and other grayfields; industrial properties (brownfields); and public housing. Click on any of these categories to at right and find lists of these types of projects and links.
